even with a dobsonian, extending the back-focus with a barlow). You can basically do it with any telescope (e.g.

There's also the Omni XLT AZ 130 and the SLT130 and SLT127, but over budget (and about as expensive as a larger manual telescope).įor images of the moon, you won't need a tracking mount. Especially with DSLR it'll be a bit tedious. edit: There's also the Celestron Astromaster 130eq and Polaris 130, but their mount is not the most stable.

Not quite as portable as the Heritage, but also cheaper: The Meade Lightbridge Mini 130 might be a bit better suited for taking images of the moon. It's not suited well for imaging (done a bit with it). As it's a table-top telescope, it's rather low but you can just put it on an Ikea Bekväm or a crate. Despite it's limits regarding planets, it will show more than a 90mm Mak on planets, and outperforms it by far for deep-sky. New, it costs a little under $300 (but there's an alternative, see below). The Skywatcher Heritage 130p, which I also have, is a manual reflector telescope. I have a 90mm Mak on a different tracking mount, and rarely use it. While a 90mm Maksutov telescope can be a fun instrument, it's aperture is limiting. I'm hoping to get some opinions or advice as to whether this is a decent purchase/decent telescope, or if I should keep looking. I've read through the pages on what to expect with various apertures, magnifications, expectations vs. I understand that I would need an attachment to connect my SLR to the telescope, and I'm okay with purchasing that later. I'm considering purchasing a used Meade ETX-90EC telescope with 3 lenses (9mm, 25mm, and 26mm Super Plössl) and the Meade heavy duty tripod I think I can pick it up for approximately $250CAD (my budget maxes out at about $300CAD). I'd like a telescope that's portable, easy to assemble/disassemble, and that I can use with my family. I'd love to view both planets and far objects, and would also like to try my hand at photographing details of the moon. I'm interested in backyard/camping astronomy, and I live in a mostly dark, rural-ish area (on clear nights we can see the Milky Way). r/telescopes aims to be a high quality sub where users can discuss all things telescopes and astronomy, but allowing such repetitive and low-effort posts will drastically lower the overall quality of the sub. Low-effort content such as those complaining about the weather (we get it, clouds are bad), simple questions that usually result in one line responses (these should be posted in our weekly discussion threads instead), general 'shitposting', memes, etc.Titles should be descriptive about what you're discussing/posting. Titles should not be 'clickbaity' nor self-deprecating - we're all here to learn so there is no point in calling yourself a 'noob' and/or putting yourself down.Concept art is not permitted, nor is content not relating to visual astronomy/telescopes.
